A member of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) West Coast Region executive committee, Fanding Baldeh, resigned from the party on Tuesday, citing concerns over the party leader, President Adama Barrow’s pursuit of a third term and his inability to fight corruption.
“Extending beyond two terms poses a significant threat to our democratic system, potentially eroding the checks and balances that ensure power is distributed fairly.”
In a letter addressed to the NPP’s administrative secretary, Baldeh assured the party of his commitment to supporting democratic ideals and principles, including continuously advocating for good governance, transparency, and accountability in the country’s political system.
His resignation comes at a time when discussions surrounding constitutional reforms, presidential term limits and governance continue to feature prominently in the country’s political discourse ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
