The President of the Gambia Press Union (GPU), Ms. Isatou Keita, has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to regional media collaboration at the 13th edition of the Gala National de la Presse 2026.

Held over the weekend at the Grand Théâtre National Doudou Ndiaye Coumba Rose in Dakar, the event brought together journalists, media practitioners and stakeholders from across Senegal and the wider region to celebrate excellence in journalism and discuss the future of the profession.

Aside from reaffirming the union’s commitment to strengthening regional media collaboration, Ms. Keita held discussions with the leadership of the CJRS on a range of initiatives aimed at deepening collaboration between the two organisations, including plans for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the implementation of joint training and capacity-building programmes for journalists, and the establishment of exchange opportunities to facilitate cross-border reporting.

According to GPU, the visit underscored a shared commitment to promoting cross-border cooperation among journalists, describing it as an important milestone in strengthening relations between media organisations in The Gambia and Senegal.

GPU hailed the engagement, stating that it comes at a time when media organisations across West Africa are increasingly seeking stronger regional partnerships to address common challenges facing journalism.
