In a surprising political shift, Independent National Assembly for Janjanbureh Constituency, Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh changed allegiance to President Adama Barrow.

In an interview with the Standard in 2022, Jammeh said: “I was not only elected by a single political party; I was elected by all parties that exist on that island. I want to maintain that integrity and respect for the electorates. Its not about Omar as an individual. Its about my people.”
Lawmaker Jammeh won the Janjanbureh seat in 2022, with a total votes of 359 against NPP, UDP, and an Independent candidate, Ebrima B. Trawally. He has since won the hearts of many youths, who saw him as a genuine representative of the youths and the people of Janjanbureh.
He has been selected to the National Assembly Select Committee tasked with the responsibility of investigating the sale and disposal of assets belonging to ex-President Yahya Jammeh.Omar Jammeh’s shift of allegiance to President Barrow is not an isolated one.
Similar moves were made by the Kombo East, and Foni Brefet NAMs, Hon. Abdou Sowe and Amie Colley, as 2026 Presidential Elections draw closer. The endorsements, according to pro-NPPs are largely due to President Barrow’s current infrastructural developments throughout the country.
