The former Secretary of the famous Janneh Commission, an inquiry that investigated the financial dealings of ex-President Yahya Jammeh, Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, has leveled accusations against Kebba Lang Fofana, a member of the National Assembly Select Committee that was tasked to investigate the sale and disposal of the assets link to Jammeh.

”Yesterday he did something that he probably thought was a bonus to his political career and expertise by attacking our credentials on National TV without proof. Yes without proof because he did not give proof to substrate what he said.”
The accusation came after the Select Committee tabled its final report before the assembly, where Fofana, in his deliberations, said Kurang did not meet the required qualification to serve as a Secretary for the Janneh Commission. Kurang, a Chattered Account who had over two decades of financial expertise, had served as the Secretary to the Commission in 2017 and was later dismissed after speaking against a potential conflict of interest among commission members, procedural irregularities in the handling of evidence and testimonies, and interference in Secretariat operations.

The report received by the Civil Press, which Fofana based his argument on, stated that Kurang was incompetent. It has, among other things, noted that there was a perceived conflict of interest in the case of the Janneh Commission’s Lead Counsel, Lawyer Amie Bensouda.
Mamadi Kurang has lashed out at the lawmaker Kebba Lang Fofana, alleging him of attacking his credentials on a national TV without a single proof.
”Yesterday he did something that he probably thought was a bonus to his political career and expertise by attacking our credentials on National TV without proof. Yes without proof because the he did not give proof to substrate what he said,” Kurang emphasized, saying Fofana was studying to be an accounting technician at Management and Development Institute (MDI) when he, Kurang, was a qualified Chartered Accountants.
”Janneh commission has 5 members, 3 commissioners 1 Secretary and 1 lead Counsel. They all came from private practice. I was hired equally on contract. Am not very educated as am still a student. But when I graduated or qualified, as you may call it some of the Commissioners were still going to school. Lol,” he added.
The National Assembly Special Select Committee was established to probe into the sale and disposal of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s assets following three days of massive protests by the youths after The Republic, an online investigative outlet, published a story: “The assets of Gambia’s former dictator go for a song,” revealing serious transparency and accountability gaps in the way assets linked to Jammeh including vehicles, aircraft, cattles etc were disposed.

The committee were Fofana was part of, highlighted series of unlawful acts that resulted to financial loses for the country, recommending the investigation and administrative actions against some time lawyers and other public servants involved in the process.
