In his open letter to Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Ebrima Nyang, Gambia Democratic Party’s Administrative Secretary has urged the leader of Unite Movement for Change (UMC) to convene an emergency meeting and ask questions regarding the claimed 30,000 registered voters in a week following the announcement of the political movement.

The letter reads as follows:
Dear Brother Talib Bensouda,

Mayor Bensouda needs a serious team to work with on his political ambition to become a President of The Gambia. He doesn’t need poster boys but politicians and grassroots workers to help him get the job done to register his party.
It is disappointing to learn that, the UMC couldn’t get 10,000 nominees to register the Unite Party with so much noise centred on Facebook, TikTok, Whatsapp and not on the ground to mobilize 10,000 after claiming to register 30,000 people within a month.
I can recall when the GDC got registered less than 2 months and got registered in the most difficult period during Yaya Jammeh. All Electoral laws were amended to make it hard for Hon. Kandeh and the GDC. The political environment was very inconvenient with many threats directed to the GDC members and its leader.
Gambia Action Party got registered at their first attempts, People’s Alliance Party (PAP) got registered in their first attempt the list goes on.
Talib should call for an emergency meeting to ask these questions:
1. Where is the claimed 30,000 registered in a week?
2. Why can’t they get 15,000 from the 30,000 registered.
3. Who were those tasked to get the 10,000 nominations and how did they acquire the nomination voter cards?
4. Is the online registration for the UMC members is reliable?
5. If 10,000 nominees can’t be secured since November what will be the fate of the Unite movement in December?.
Mayor Bensouda has a work to do and this is where his leadership is right needed because the setback of any opposition movement is a setback to all oppositions.
Take the time to reflect and re-strategize to get on track.
The fact remains that, it is easier to establish a party now than before and Unite must pass the test.
This is not politics as usual but an honest advise to you as my brother who i hold at the highest esteem.
