In a significant move toward promoting local agricultural produces, agriculture-based organisation, Farmers Pharmacy The Gambia, has successfully held the second edition of farmers market at Farato Farm, bringing together Gambian farmers across the country, agribusiness entrepreneurs, consumers, and development stakeholders in a renewed effort to strengthen local agriculture and food security.
The two-day event, held on 16th and 17th May 2026, has attracted a large turnout of participants seeking fresh, locally produced food items ahead of the Tobaski celebrations.
Speaking during the opening ceremony on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Mr. Famara Badjie, underscored the importance of local agriculture, encouraging Gambians to promote food self sufficiency for more healthy society.
The event featured remarks from representative of the regional agricultural body, under the ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative aims to create a direct link between farmers and consumers while promoting sustainable agricultural development and economic empowerment, particularly for women and young people engaged in farming and agribusiness.
Several exhibitors displayed a wide variety of products, including fresh vegetables, fruits, livestock products, cereals, and processed food items.
