In the heart of Wellingara community in the West Coast Region, where dusty fields serve as mini stadiums for highly talented young footballers, there emerged a different central defensive midfielder.
Unlike many whose careers stuck within the four corners of Wellingara football field throughout their journey, Saikou Sidibeh’s own has been regarded as one of the most consistent ones among the many, despite still not penning any contract outside the Gambia. Talents, like other parts of the Gambia, outweighs resources, but his journey, even if it ends here, has already proven its uniqueness.

Sidibeh’s rise through the ranks of Gambian football is not only about his talent but a testament to his hard work and reliability. He has been craving his name into the minds of football fans across the Gambia.
His career began at a tender age with PSV Wellingara, a team that eventually made its way to Gambia’s First Division league after securing a promotion.
Though he was not part of the players who helped the club secure a promotion to the Gambian top flight, he later moved to Falcons, an Abuko-based football club, in the 2019/2020 Second Division campaign. Guess what, the following year, 2020/21, Sidibeh was an integral part of the club’s squad that clinched the Second Division championship, earning the club a promotion to the First Division.

At Falcons FC, Saikou was not just a squad player, but a regular starter who played almost every important minute of the season. His most memorable moment with Falcons came three years ago when the team narrowly missed out on the league title to Real de Banjul on goal difference and Sidibeh was widely regarded as the unsung hero of that campaign.
Despite spending only two seasons with BK Milan, now Colley Stars, his impressive game-in-game-out impact earned him a pivotal move to the reigning champions Real De Banjul in the second round of last season, adding a silverware to his résumé by winning a First Division Championship and contributing to the club’s historic three-peat achievement.

What makes his move even more remarkable is his unbeaten record. Since joining Real, Sidibeh has never lost a league game in which he has been featured, with a 7-game start streak without defeat.
Saikou Sidibeh is regarded as a modern-day central defensive midfielder (box-to-box), with energy and a mindset to go beyond playing the Gambian league.
