In a decisive move, His Excellency President Adama Barrow has granted pardon to 56 inmates of Mile Two State Central Prison, exercising his Prerogative of Mercy under Section 82 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.

The Gambia Prison Service has made the announcement on Wednesday 11th February 2026, where the authority advised the pardoned inmates to serve as role models within their communities, and commit to upholding the law, which contributes to national development.
According to Prison Services, the gesture reflected President Barrow’s commitment to justice, rehabilitation, and reintegration, offering deserving inmates a second chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.
